Even though mostly known for its military-inspired and pilot’s watches, Bell & Ross has long been involved in the concept of dive watches – which, in some ways, can also be seen as military-oriented pieces. For instance, in 1997, three years after its birth, the brand introduced Hydromax, an oiled-filled watch with 11,100m water-resistance. Then came the barrel-shaped BR 02 collection, entirely devoted to aquatic activities.
If you read MONOCHROME on a regular basis, you should be well aware that independent watchmaking has always been one of the main topics of interest of our founder, and of most of the members of the editorial team. We’ve always been passionate about creative, soul-infused watches made by small ateliers or even one-man shows. And in this instance, we’re always keen on discovering new members of the indie scene. The latest to surface is a relatively young Frenchman named Vincent Deprez, and despite his young age, his track record is rather impressive. Today, we’ll be taking a look at his first eponymous creation, a traditional, handmade, classically designed and superbly finished watch, the Tourbillon Classique Souscription Edition.
For many fans of IWC Schaffhausen, size – big size – is an important issue, so it’s not surprising that the XXL 46mm Big Pilot is considered one of the brand’s flagship models. Realising that not everybody can pull off a 46mm wristwatch, IWC decided to offer the Big Pilot in a smaller 43mm case size last year. In a similar move, IWC revisited its vintage-inspired Portofino Chronograph in 2021, offering a new 39mm diameter.
